Lawns in the Landscape is an extremely informative lesson on lawn care. Landscape architect (Don) Marquardt does an excellent job of presenting the material while answering the question "Do I really need a lawn?" Whether you use seed or sod, plant in the sun or shade, live in a warm or cold climate, your lawns needs are reviewed and clearly explained. Demonstrations of soil preparation, seeding, and turf installation are simple but instructive. The visual elements are well done and professional. This video would be useful in vocational programs and is recommended for all public library gardening collections.

After weighing the pros and cons of maintaining a lawn and suggesting possible alternatives, a landscape architect explains the common categories of turf grass. The camera focuses in on examples of several varieties of cool and warm season grasses and the program discusses various criteria to consider, including climate, geography, sunlight, lawn use, soil type, and irrigation needs. Tilling machines, lawns mowers, and seed spreaders are demonstrated, and other topics such as watering, fertilizing and mowing are carefully addressed as well.
